Plantations:
Boone Hall- This plantation site does not shy away from its harsh past especially with the slave cabin tour and a unique Gullah presentation. Some guests may find the house tour lackluster.
Magnolia- This plantation also offers a well balanced view of the plantation life for the enslaved populace.
Middleton- While the site is beautiful, some may find lack of focus on the life of the enslaved populace disheartening.
Historic Sites:
The Powder Magazine- Cheap and brief visit but it is the oldest public building in the state.
Old Exchange and Provost Dungeon- Captivating for guests of all ages, the dungeon held prisoners during the American Revolution
Dock Street Theater-Free for visitors on weekdays usually, this location is well worth a brief visit
Fort Sumter- Must visit via one of the private ferries, ask about how to get on a guided tour once at this site which was the first battle of the Civil War
Fort Moultrie- Great revolutionary/civil war era fortification that you can drive too.
Slave Mart Museum- One of a kind structure, lots of informative materials on display describing the structure and its use prior to civil war
African American Museum- Excellent opportunity to visit a new museum on the waterfront years in the making
Miscellaneous:
Patriots Point Naval Museum- Visit the WWII era ships the USS Yorktown and/or the USS Laffey which both saw combat
